Hoi An Ancient Town is an exceptionally well-preserved example of a South-East Asian trading port dating from the 15th to the 19th century. Hoi An was once a bustling international commercial port in the past that was recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. At present, Hoi An ancient town is the harmonious combination of ancient houses, antique stores, cafes and galleries.
Its exceptionally dramatic landscape is punctuated by a series of forested mountains that tower over the city, rising to the uppermost Tijuca peak at 1,021m high, and cascading down to the coast where the cone shapes of Sugar Loaf, Urca, Cara de Cão and Corcovado frame the wide sweeps of Guanabara Bay that shelters Rio de Janeiro from Atlantic Ocean.
